Almassora's municipalities, Castellon de la Plana and Benicassim belonging to Alta Plana region (Castellón) used to present deficiencies in the drinking water supply since the wells which supply Almassora, Castellón and Benicassim areas have almost reached their maximum volume of sustainable extraction, whereas the demand increases in a constant and important way. To solve this problem, the Environment, Water, Urbanism and Housing Ministry has foreseen the construction of a Drinking Water Treatment Plant (DWTP) on Mijares river.
Since the area of the treatment plant are defined two networks which go, one for Benicassim-Castellon supply ending in the existing reservoir of La Parreta I, and the other at Parreta II tank, which is part of the Project, located in the municipality of Benicassim. Since the pipes described above, leave connections to Castellon de la Plana tank.
The Environmental Impact Study contemplated the execution of 33 Km of pipeline as well as the execution of Parreta II tank. The linear action develops along different environments, urban zones, fields of culturing of citrus fruits and forest areas. The tracing adjusted to the existing road, without concerning any of the most near natural protected spaces: Mijares River, Desert de las Palmas and Ermitorio de la Magdalena . The study includes a report about the affection of the archaeological heritage that needed an archaeological exploration of the whole tracing.
