UNDER THE BRIDGE
Amsterdam is a city where history and cutting-edge design coexist, but the bond between them both seems to be more distant every day. Both designers and architects all over the world seem to be so focused on coming up with a new revolutionary design that sometimes they are risking to forget about the past and with it, fundamental aspects of our society such as culture, and that is a risk we cannot afford.
Therefore, the project UNDER THE BRIDGE aims to redesign the structure of a traditional arch bridge by transforming the arches of the bridge into gallery spaces for the pedestrians, allowing them not only to be amazed by the beauty of the art pieces that would be displayed inside but also to discover the real beauty of this old type of bridges, the arches, which before were under their feet, “under the bridge”.
With this humble design, the project pays respect to this historic city and to the masterpieces that would be displayed, encouraging the visitors to rediscover the beauty of their past and to revalue the importance of history, art and culture.
